The Paul McKenna Band - Elements [CD]




Elements is the 3rd Paul McKenna album released by Greentrax Recordings since the band's formation in 2006. Paul McKenna picked up 'Best Up & Coming Artist of 2009' at the MG Alba Scots Trad Awards on the release of their 1st Album 'Between Two Worlds'.

Jimmy Shand and his Band - Jimmy’s Fancy [CD]




One of Jimmy Shand’s earliest LPs, recorded in 1961, “Jimmy’s Fancy” features a selection of Scottish dance music at its best in the distinctive Shand Style. With excellent tempo and swing, the album was recorded in a live dance setting with the dancers of the Royal Scottish Dance Society. The enthusiasm with which the band plays and the audible responses of the dancers to the music creates a very lively atmosphere which makes for highly enjoyable listening.

Ian Powrie and his Scottish Dance Band - Vintage Powrie [CD]




A great selection of vintage tracks by the legendary Ian Powrie Scottish Dance Band. Recorded in the late 1950s and early 1960s, these tracks truly stand the test of time. They have been digitally cleaned and enhanced from the original vinyl records and, in the case of the first track 'Speed The Plough', from a 78 rpm. Also included are four tracks by accordionists Mickie Ainsworth and Jimmy Blue.

Rachel Hair - Claasagh Volume 1 [Book]




A new Manx harp book has been produced by professional Celtic harpist Rachel Hair. Claasagh, which is Manx Gaelic for harp, is a collection of 20 traditional tunes, arranged by Rachel for her students in the Isle of Man.

Rachel’s beautiful arrangements in Claasagh volume 1 range from elementary to advanced level, with well-known easier favourites such as 'Smuggler’s Lullaby' to a jazzy interpretation of 'Car ny Ferrishyn', and so the book is a useful to addition to any harpist’s repertoire and a great introduction to the rich tradition of Manx music.
