This month The Fiddle Tree presents a concert of the very finest traditional Irish Music when Frankie Gavin & Tim Edey stop off at The Birnam House Hotel on Thursday May 17th for one of only four Scottish dates on their current UK-wide tour.
Frankie Gavin is widely recognised as being Ireland's finest living fiddler. In 1962, at the age of six, he performed for John F. Kennedy when the president visited Ireland. Eleven years later, Frankie won both the all-Ireland fiddle and the all-Ireland flute championships on the same day!! He was a founder member and leader of the internationally renowned band "De Dannan", with whom he recorded 16 albums and toured the world. Frankie has recorded a number of solo albums as well as working with a diverse range of world-famous artists such as Stephan Grapelli, Earl Scruggs, Elvis Costello and The Rolling Stones.
Tim Edey, from Broadstairs in Kent, is regarded by many to be one of the best all-round musicians of his generation on the worldwide Celtic Music Scene. He is a master of more than ten instruments including melodeon, accordeon, guitar, banjo, bass, piano, mandolin, whistle, bodhran and bouzouki. Tim has appeared on the Jools Holland Show and has worked with a number of Ireland's top performers including Sharon Shannon, Mary Black and, of course, Frankie Gavin.
The Birnam concert starts at 8.00 p.m. and there will be no support act.
Tickets cost £10 advance, or £12 on the door. As ever, under-18s are £3 or 2 for a fiver.
Tickets are available now from the hotel (01350 727462), Birnam CD (01350 727158) and Zigzags in Dunkeld (01350 728666).

For our June event, we have managed to entice ever-popular Celtic band The Poozies back to Highland Perthsire for what should be another sellout show. The band is undertaking a special, short UK tour with - for the first time - a five-piece line-up which will include both founder member / sensational singer Sally Barker and fiddler Eilidh Shaw, recently returned to the fold after taking a year out on maternity leave.
Another evening not to be missed
