Gaberlunzie in Concert - 17th June 2006

Gaberlunzie

Robin Watson and Gordon Menzies have been together as Gaberlunzie since the early 1970s and are well known for producing an exciting blend of modern and traditional songs. Essentially Scottish, with an emphasis on rhythm and harmony, Gaberlunzie has a wide appeal to audiences both at home and abroad. They have travelled extensively in Europe, Canada, United States, and the Middle East, taking with them not only Scottish music but also that other extra special ingredient - Scottish humour.

The Gabs, as they are popularly called among their loyal following of supporters, have a wealth of experience in performing for a wide variety of audiences - from folk clubs to football stadiums, from holiday resorts to concert halls. They have appeared many times on television and radio not only in the UK but also in Canada, and the United States.

To date, Gaberlunzie have recorded 18 albums and two videos. Their latest release Independent Scots is sponsored by the Scots Independent newspaper. In addition, they have been engaged in solo projects creating albums in different musical styles. Robin's are entitled Summer Storms and Colours. Gordon's solo album is Full Circle.

The performance of the duo spans the breadth of Scottish culture. As singers, instrumentalists, and songwriters, their talents are impressive and Gaberlunzie's gift for entertainment is unsurpassed in Scottish folk music.

Flint

Flint are a talented trio playing guitars, flute, penny whistle, bagpipes, 5-string banjo and sing a varied number of Scottish and Irish songs. Flint played at the festival last year in the Guildford Arms which was hosted over a 10 day period by the Yard of Ale.

Leith Folk Club - The July Gigs 2006

Tuesday 4th July Moishe's Bagel
Rip-roaring, toe tapping jazz influenced klezmer and Balkan music from some of Scotland's finest musicians. An intoxicating mix of Eastern European dance music, Middle Eastern rhythms and virtuoso performances, Moishe's Bagel bring passion, soul and irresistible energy to Jewish world music.

Tuesday 11th July Saltfishforty
The exciting Orkney duo of Douglas Montgomery (fiddle) and Brian Cromarty (guitar/mandola/vocals) released their 2nd album, orkney twister, to critical acclaim in December 2005. A fresh and dynamic live act full of originality they “brought the house down” on their first visit and have been growing in popularity ever since.

Tuesday 18th July Liz Carlisle and Russell Wolff
“Original songs that cull the twang and heart of country music, the soul searching of folk and the lift of pop” - The Boston Globe. The rising American folk/country star from Montana is on UK tour with her producer and musical collaborator, the New York songwriter, Russell Wolff. “Carlisle's writing is crisp and insightful beyond her years”

Tuesday 25th July The Average Folk Band
Piper from Isle of Arran meets pretty pint-sized concertina player and thinks “I could make beautiful music with that girl”. Add some funk to the recipe and we have the Average Folk Band. Damien Frame – pipes/whistles, Emily Frame – concertina/keyboards, Graham Stephen – bass guitar, Graeme McGowan – drums/percussion and Euan Davidson – guitar/mandolin.
